Our first soiree, 04/09/08

Andy's boss, Valerie, invited us to her place to have a soiree for the visiting mathematicians. Our party included some of Andy's coworkers and the three visiting mathematicians, two from Austria and one from China. We sampled three white wines (if I recall correctly one was a Muscat and another a Viognier). As for the reds, I am not a big fan, but I think that Andy enjoyed them. There were also a variety of cheeses and meats. Though, to be honest, I did not try any of the meats. They looked a little scary to me.

That night, we also played "Ingenious", watched a cool lightning storm, and learned about some aspects of French life. We left pretty late from Valerie's and made our way to the tram stop. Unfortunately, due to the storm, a couple blocks were out of power nearest the closest tram stop, and the trams were no longer picking people up there. So, we wandered through the dark alleyways following others until we came to the next stop. Some were skeptical that the tram would not visit this stop and continued on. But, our apartment was too far away for us to walk there, so we attempted flagging down a taxi. While waiting for a taxi, to our surprise, a tram came! So, we ran to the stop and hopped on the bus.

*While discussing this with Andy (I am not sure if some nights are running together) it seems that a few other strange things happened that night. But, I will save those for another day.
