Our tour of Montpellier

As you may be able to tell, these are the photos from Andy's camera. He has a more exclusive depiction of our tour
of the city. Enjoy! Btw, there is a story behind the "cheesy" puzzle. It started a couple years ago as a gag gift from
my sister, Aubrey, and now it has become a running tradition to buy "cheesy" magic puzzles.

Sara's a little shy

We bought a cheesy puzzle at the French Big Lots, NORMA

This is the miniature Peyrou area; that's Louis XIV's statue (still have to see it in real life).

This is downtown in the miniature, see the triumphal arch front and center?

Before our tour started, we saw these cool miniatures of Montpellier; this is the aqueduct.

This one is for Scotty Read. Proof that men in France wear capris pants!

Another view of the Zeus fountain, maybe not the best

This one is perhaps better

The circle continued on the other side (heading torwards the mall)

I really liked this area and wanted to capture why. Wwhen you look up all of the buildings form a circle.

A statue of Zeus and a little kid, who probably doesn't know who Zeus is.

I was trying to show how far back these arches lined up; from one park to the next. Oh well.

Every weekend they set up stands in the middle of downtown and sell stuff. On other days the bums will sell stuff, too.

Our tour group near the center of the Comedie at the statue which seems to be a really nice meeting point.

I liked this sign; it jumped out at me.

Some old building, showing the stairs.

This was a very old building that we snuck into along the tour. It's from the medieval time period.

This shows both the old and the new road sign

It's like something out of Aladdin

I like the way this guy walks

A nice little picture built into a building near a cafe

Another contentious mosaic, along with a crazy happy face

A cafe getting ready for their day. Should fill up soon.

Growth on an old fountain, but I like the color.

San Juan Collection, the Prefecture during the day (SJ collection)

Another example of hidden faces in Montpellier architecture

Day time of my San Juan Trading Post (SJ collection)

The buildings all come to corners at tight edges downtown. 90 degrees is just too wasteful, I guess.

These sorts of heads are just everywhere. You don't notice them if you don't look for them.

Perhaps a San Juan pic?

Close up of the "Hero"; lots of neat stuff going on in this statue

Trying to capture a view, but it didn't turn out so well

These mosaics caused a big uproar when they were put up all over town years back

This is a really old church hidden somewhere downtown

This church was a lot of fun to take pictures of

These guys have been sitting there for a long time

A sign

Slightly closer shot of the Gargoyles and heads

Notice the little heads underneath the Gargoyles

This is part of the street sign collection, showing the old versus the new

This was a statue hidden between some cafes

This is actually a men's room

On our walking tour; just enjoying the view

There were a lot of nice places to eat on this road, and I wanted to remember its' name

When two people look at the same object, they often don't see the same things

There are things like this all over the place here; I liked the way the water bounced

I never realized there were mountains off in the distance

The old stars and stripes

The "Welcome to Montpellier" speech before the buffet

Hard to capture the ring, but it was pretty in this room

Overall, we had a really nice time walking around on the tour. Most of the area, we were already familiar with, but it
gave us a chance to walk around and be "touristy". The speech was a bit long and in French, so we played Suduko
while we waited for the buffet. The food was definitely worth the wait, but it was hard fighting through the droves of
people. I also enjoyed the local wine and champagne that was served, and a nice touch to the event was the
complimentary bottle of wine we received as we left!
