I went out on a day trip with a group of women from the AVF, an organization I joined in Montpellier. (That is where I take my French and Sculpting classes.) The Van Gogh exhibition was amazing! I tried taking a bunch of videos, but not all turned out very well, because we couldn't use any lighting in the cave. So, I tried taking a mixture of videos and photos, and I am surprised at how well some of the pictures came out.

We also visited the village of les Baux de Provence. It was really interesting because the village was all built into the mountain. Overall, I had a nice time, but I was so... burnt out after 8 hours of French and not understanding most of it. Oh well, "C'est la vie."

I also learned a new saying, "C'est la pied!" The literal translation means, "It is the foot!" I think it means that everything is cool; I am not entirely sure. :) I looked it up online, and it basically means "It's the best!" or "It's the life!", so same difference.

Cathedrale d'Images: Van Gogh

The exibition was in Salle Plecy

An informational display

Actually, this is a not an entrance, but it helps show the scale of the mountain

One of Van Gogh's paintings projected on the cave wall

The Portrait of Doctor Gachet

Some paintings were also projected on to the floor

This helps to show the size of the cave

Another Van Gogh painting

A pastoral painting

In this photo, you can really see the brush strokes

There were a lot of columns in the cave with projections of parts of Van Gogh's paintings

A self-portrait

Bienvenue a les Baux de Provence

Les Alpilles mountain view with houses below

A mountain view showing how the village is built into the mountain

We wandered into a cathedral

A painting in the cathedral

Here we wandered into a courtyard with wooden sculptures

Another wooden sculpture

A cool sundial by the Santon Museum

These little dolls called santons (meaning "little saint") are made of terracotta

But, only there hands, feet, and faces are made out of clay

They were originally created for nativities, but now there are many kinds of santons

They are all handcrafted, but I personally find dolls creepy

We later visited the windmill in his painting

A mail carrier

A moulin rouge; red windmill

I thought this was cool, because there was a little flower growing out of the rocky soil
